Mumbai, June 12: Girish Girija Joshi`s ‘Zor Lagaa Ke...Haiya’, which released all over this Friday, is not really like most Hindi children’s films. Fortunately, this one doesn’t have a superhero or Hanuman or Ghatotkach to please the young viewers, but has kids as heroes. The film’s story focuses on the illegal cutting of trees in cities like Mumbai. And there’s a bad man, played by Gulshan Grover, who is hell bent on cutting one particular tree. And the kids finally save the tree from this baddie builder, with the help of an old beggar, played by Mithun Chakraborty.
It`s quite funny to watch the kids and the beggar work up some really naughty tricks to save the tree. Gulshan Grover is at his villainous best, and his side kick, played by Mahesh Manjrekar, gives the film a comical appeal. All the children are fun to watch. Ashwin Chitale, perhaps, looks the cutest with his funny put on act. What really takes the fun away from the story are the songs, which are put unnecessarily, apparently in an attempt to commercialise the movie. Riya Sen’s music video seems completely unnecessary and unforgivable. It’s something the film could have easily done without. Otherwise, ‘Zor Lagaa Ke...Haiya’ seems to have come out fine, but strictly for children. With a lot of exaggeration, screaming and shouting being there, this may prove to be a good entertainer for kids. Rating: Three cheers!
